As a creative profession, success in fashion merchandising requires a strong personal interest, a passion for enhancing appearance, and a high level of creativity and originality. This course builds that foundation while equipping students with the technical and strategic skills to navigate the global fashion industry.
You can choose Apparel merchandising as a contemporary profession – a merchandiser is a very important official for the ready-made garment industry. His responsibilities are immense. In a word, the merchandiser is the one who manages the whole process from product production to marketing and sales. It is quite respectable and attractive and its salary is also higher than other professions.
At present, there are about 11,000 garment factories in our country. There are numerous buying houses, fashion houses, boutique houses, the textile industry, and quality control institutes. Therefore, it can be said with certainty that if one has education and training in this field, one will get a job in this sector with an attractive salary and allowance from the beginning. Apart from that, there is also the possibility of fast promotion of hardworking people.
Our country exports manpower to work in this sector in foreign countries. In that case, there is an opportunity to work abroad at a higher salary. No matter what you study, if you have the willpower in your mind, you too can be a merchandiser. If there is interest, comparatively less meritorious students can also build a good career in these subjects.
In terms of garments exports, Bangladesh is the second one in the world. According to BGMEA, by 2021, the export target of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry will be 50 billion US dollars. Achieving this goal requires numerous skilled merchandisers. Nowadays, many people are building promising careers as merchandisers. Depending on the organization, skills, and experience, the salary of merchandisers can be up to lakhs.
Merchandiser Work:
Buying house merchandisers contact foreign buyers or buyers to sell products or take orders to make clothing. The foreign buyer is shown a few samples of the desired product. Besides, the materials, quality, features, and qualities of the product are presented to the buyer. If the buyer likes to see the sample, he decides the price. An agreement is then reached between the two parties stating the number of products, the time of shipment, and the bargain.
The merchandiser has to make sure that quality products are being made according to the needs of the buyer.
The merchandiser has to take care of the whole work from product creation to shipment.
It is the job of a merchandiser to collect clothes and accessories according to the demand and make a certain number of garments with them and deliver them within the stipulated time.
বিশ্বের অনেক নামকরা পোশাক প্রস্তুতকারক ব্র্যান্ড তাদের প্রডাকশনের জন্য বাংলাদেশকে বেছে নিচ্ছে। ব্র্যান্ডগুলোর নিজস্ব আঞ্চলিক বা লিয়াজোঁ অফিসের পাশাপাশি বায়িং হাউসের সংখ্যা দিন দিন বাড়ছে। বর্তমানে দেশি-বিদেশি সব মিলিয়ে দেশে গার্মেন্টস এবং বায়িং হাউসের সংখ্যা বাইশ হাজারেরও অধিক হাজার। প্রতিটি প্রতিষ্ঠানেই উল্লেখযোগ্যসংখ্যক মার্চেন্ডাইজারের দরকার হয়। প্রতিনিয়তই তৈরি হচ্ছে নতুন নতুন বায়িং হাউস ও গার্মেন্ট ফ্যাক্টরি।পদোন্নতি এ পেশায় শুরুতে অ্যাসিস্ট্যান্ট মার্চেন্ডাইজার হিসেবে নিয়োগ হয়। এরপর যোগ্যতা অনুযায়ী মার্চেন্ডাইজার, সিনিয়র মার্চেন্ডাইজার এবং মার্চেন্ডাইজার ম্যানেজার হিসেবে পদোন্নতি হয়। বায়ারদের সঙ্গে কথা বলে কে কত সহজে কাজটি আদায় করতে পারে, তার ওপর নির্ভর করে পদোন্নতি।
মেয়েদের কাজের ক্ষেত্রঃ
এ সেক্টরে দিন দিন মেয়েদের চাহিদা বাড়ছে। কিন্তু সেই তুলনায় পাওয়া যাচ্ছে না দক্ষ মেয়ে মার্চেন্ডাইজার। ক্ষেত্রভেদে ছেলেদের তুলনায় এ সেক্টরে মেয়েদেরসফলতার হার বেশি। তবে ৯টা-৫টা অফিসের বাইরে বেশিক্ষণ কাজ করতে হয় বলে মার্চেন্ডাইজিং বিভাগের কমার্শিয়াল অফিসার হিসেবে বেশির ভাগ মেয়ে কাজ করছেন। মেয়ে কমার্শিয়াল অফিসাররা মূলত আমদানি-রপ্তানি সংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যাংকিংয়ের কাজগুলো করেন।
মারচেন্ডাইজার যে কোন ফ্যাক্টরীর জন্য খুবই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করে থাকে। বলতে গেলে তারা বায়ার ও ফ্যাক্টরীর মধ্যে সেতুবন্ধন হিসেবে কাজ করে। আর যার মধ্যে বায়ারকে ম্যানেজ করার গুণ সবচেয়ে বেশি থাকে সে মারচেন্ডাইজিং পেশায় খুব দ্রুত উন্নতি করে থাকে। এই বায়ার ম্যানেজ করার জন্য অবশ্যই ভাল মার্চেন্ডাইজার হতে হবে। আর ভাল মার্চেন্ডাইজার হতে হলে এরকম ভাল কিছু গুণ থাকতে হবে যা দিয়ে বায়ার এবং বায়ারের সকল রিকয়ারমেন্ট সুন্দরভাবে পূর্ণ করা যায়।

বেতন-কাঠামোঃ
মার্চেন্ডাইজিং পেশায় শুরুতে বেতন হিসেবে ৩০ হাজার থেকে ৫০ হাজার টাকা হতে পারে। তবে পূর্ব অভিজ্ঞতা ছাড়া ফ্রেশার হিসেবে শুরু করলে বেতন ১৫ হাজার টাকা থেকে শুরু হতে পারে। চার থেকে পাঁচ বছরের অভিজ্ঞতাসম্পন্ন একজন মার্চেন্ডাইজারের বেতন ৩০ থেকে ৫০ হাজার টাকা পর্যন্ত হতে পারে।
